The shortlist for the PD Ports Northern Powerhouse Export Awards in association with HSBC, Department for International Trade (DIT) and Chamber International has officially been announced.

Returning for its third year to recognise the North’s top exporters and celebrate achievements in international trade, a range of companies have made the final shortlist for this year’s PD Ports Northern Powerhouse Export Awards.
Judges from PD Ports, HSBC, DIT, Chamber International and EDM Limited will meet in the new year to decide the overall winners of each category from micro exporter and e-commerce exporter to most entrepreneurial exporter and export team of the year.
BE group commercial director, Bryan Hoare, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed with the level and quality of the entries for 2019 which just shows how much export growth potential there is across the Northern Powerhouse.
“With thanks to the teams at PD Ports, DIT and HSBC for their support, we know that this event will truly celebrate and inspire entrepreneurship by flying the flag for the Northern Powerhouse.”
Frans Calje, PD Ports’ CEO, commented: “With support from event partners, nominations for the awards have doubled compared to last year, providing us with more high calibre entries to judge.
“As we head into what is set to be a challenging year ahead, it’s extremely positive to see so many Northern businesses continuing their export journey as we see the critical importance international trade will continue to play to support the vital growth of the economy. By highlighting these successes at the awards, it’s hoped we can inspire further businesses to start exporting.”
Nick Missin, HSBC’s head of trade for the North, said: “The diversity, enthusiasm and tenacity of the businesses which have entered says everything about the North's approach to the export opportunities which are out there - the world wants our goods, services, skills and expertise. At HSBC we are committed to supporting exporters, helping businesses and communities to thrive and we can act as a gateway to the world through our global network.”
Minister of state at the Department for International Trade, Baroness Fairhead, said: “All of the Northern Powerhouse businesses shortlisted for an award today are a terrific testament that exporting can bring prosperity and success.
“I would encourage any business that has exporting ambitions to get in touch with the Department for International Trade and to make use of the support available to kick-start their export operations.”
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony, taking place on 7 February 2019 at National Railway Museum in York.
